My birthday is December 29, 1968.
I started playing guitar when I was 10. No lessons, just me and some Beatles records. The biggest influence on me as a child growing up with parents who loved turning the radio on and setting me in front of it was when they took me to see ELVIS PRESLEY in 1976. This made a big impact on me and it also looked like a good job, too.
All I really remember about growing up is learning AC/DC and Beatles songs and inviting my friends over after school to watch me play them. This was about sixth or seventh grade which was in 1980 to 1982. I played in a few bands in high school. We played at a few local bars and swimming pool parties through high school.
After high school, I got a job at a local music store selling guitars and such. This is where I met Michael. He used to come in my store and rent things from us from time to time. Well, one day I over heard him say to my boss, who was a popular guitar player in Kansas City, that his guitar player Chris had just quit to raise a family. So, he needed a guitar player right away and he gave Joe (my boss) a 5 song (demo) tape of The Front's latest music to learn.
Well, working with Joe everyday, (I listened) to him bullshit Michael about not being able to get together and jam on these tunes. Joe would rather go out on a date then jam. Well, one thing led to another and I stole the tape out of Joe's briefcase, learned all the songs, and went to The Front's rehearsal space down in the river market area. (I) walked in feeling very confident and told them I was their new guitar player. This took them by surprise not knowing who the hell I was; and that I had a tape of their music and knew it front to back (no pun intended).
So, needless to say we jammed for a while on The Front's music and they were in to that; and then Michael said, "Well what else do you know?" After that we played all the AC/DC songs that I knew (Michael & Co. were big AC/DC fans) and after a few hours I was in the band.
We started playing (out) soon after that. Opening for Squeeze was our first gig together. Also, Seymour Stein from Sire Records (Madonna, The Cult), was in to see us and to give Michael a record deal. He really wasn't too impressed with anyone else. To make a long story short we signed a management deal with Doc McGhee and the rest is history.
More about me? Well, my favorite color is baby blue. I drive a Mitsubishi Montero, and I play a few different guitars; my favorite one is my 1971 Gibson Super 400 that my wife bought me for X-MAS in 1999. I also have 4 Fender Stratocasters, two Les Pauls and an Epiphone Casino (John Lennon model). I play through a Marshall Bluesbreaker combo amp and run a few effects like a line 6 delay, Roto-vibe and a Cry baby wha-wha pedal through it. Pretty damn fine sounding guitar rig if I say so myself.
(Michael and myself) are both very serious and hard working individuals. We both have an extreme love for writing and performing music.
Mike was kind enough to send his biography to me. Thank you Mike!
